It contains between 65% and 70% of high-quality protein and it is rich in Omega-3, which constitutes an essential source of nutrition and energy used as supply for animal breeding in livestock, sheep and porcine industry, being aquaculture the most important one.

Valued for its health benefits, thanks to the essential Omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA). It is used in aquaculture and for human consumption through capsules used as a supplement for human health.

Peru has unique geographical conditions due to the convergence of El Niño and Humboldt currents, with an extensive fishing littoral (over 3,000 km) and a biomass highly-renowned for its quality and diversity.

Engraulis ringens

The only species authorized for fishmeal production. It has several advantages over other species.

It is not a migratory species

It is distributed into two population units: north-central and southern stock.

Its distribution is associated to the extension of cold coastal waters of the Humboldt Current , (ranges between 16 ° and 23 ° C in the summer and 14 ° and 18 ° C in the winter), salinities between 34.5 and 35.1 ppm, and high nutrient concentrations (phosphates, silicates, and nitrates).

Near to the coast

According to the distance from the coast, anchovy is found as far as 80 nautical miles. This range is variable, because it has been observed even as far as 200 miles.

Vast shoals

Anchovy makes huge shoals which, in periods of high availability, make easier the catch of great magnitude.

Short-cycle of reproduction

Reproductive cycle of 6 months. Life cycle: 3 years. Maturity: at 12 cm long (1 year old). In 3 years, it reaches a maximum of 20 cm. Minimum size for fishing: 12 cm.
