SECOND SECOND FISHING SEASON OF 2018 BEGINS WITH A QUOTA OF 2.1 MILLION METRIC TONS
It has been informed today by press conference of the Ministry of Production (PRODUCE), the authorization of the start of the second fishing season 2018 in the central-northern area, which will start on November 15 and will finish once the Maximum Maximum Limit of Permissible Capture has been reached (LMTCP) or, when recommended by IMARPE.
The LMTCP corresponding to that fishing season is 2.1 million metric tons, which is in line with the recommendations of the Institute of the Sea of Peru (IMARPE). According to the information provided by the Ministry of Production, the report indicates that the total biomass observed is around 7.2 million metric tons in the central-northern stock, with an average sizen of 14 cm and 9% of juveniles in volume.
With a quota of 2.1 million tonnes for the second fishing season, the annual quota of 2018 would exceed 5 million tonnes, becoming the highest annual quota of the last 7 years and reaffirming good management in the sector that allows an stable and healthy biomass.
